HISTORY
The NC Black Leadership Caucus was organized in October 1976
after key Black leaders in North Carolina recognized the need to
create a statewide organization that could consolidate the civil rights
and voting rights gains of the past into a platform to support Black
political and economic empowerment. The NCBLC seeks full equality
and equity for all Black North Carolinians.
The structure of the Caucus comes from the membership.
Structured locally in each of the state's 13 Congressional Districts
and 100 counties, the Caucus membership includes community
residents statewide, progressive organizational leaders, public
officials, community activists, clergy, and working women and men
who are concerned about the survival and future empowerment of
Black and Low-wealth people.
These citizens have collectively joined together to meet and share
information and to develop strategies to promote empowerment in all
sectors of life.
